La iglesia del pueblo de Macaya está ubicada en Iquique. Posee dos torres, una nave y su estructura es en mampostería de piedra.
La iglesia San Santiago de Macaya data del siglo XVIII, cuando fue construido el primer templo en medio de un atrio o plaza cercada que sirvió originalmente de cementerio. Este templo, de arquitectura barroca-mestiza fue construido en piedra con mortero de barro y enlucido de cal. Su techo, como todos los de la región, tenía cubierta de paja brava.
